Research Says: 5G IoT Connections Will Reach 116 Million By 2026

Key Highlights

  • A study by Juniper Research predicts that the global number of 5G IoT connections will exceed million by 2026, reaching 116 million.
  • It represents a 1,100% growth from 17 million in 2023.

The global number of 5G IoT connections will exceed 100 million by 2026. Juniper Research study finds that the global number of connections will reach 116 million by 2026. It marks an incredible 1,100 percent growth, an increase from 17 million in 2023.

The growth is expected to be driven by smart city services and healthcare, particularly in areas such as connected emergency services, telemedicine, and real-time remote monitoring.

5G Will Benefit Healthcare Provision

One of the researchers, Olivia Williams, commented that 5G would enable highly efficient and dynamic healthcare provision that was not feasible with 4G or Wi-Fi. Healthcare providers must initially implement 5G in areas that provide a strong return on investment (ROI) and, most notably, connected emergency services.

The Covid-19 pandemic exposed the inefficiencies in healthcare that can be improved by using technologies such as IoT. 5G IoT connection will greatly benefit telemedicine, ambulances and emergency services, and real-time remote monitoring.

The report from Juniper Research also forecasts that there will be over 60 million global 5G smart city connections for smart cities. It encourages city-planning authorities to leverage 5G as high-bandwidth gateways. Transportation network monitoring, including road and rail networks, will act as a major use case that needs the high-bandwidth cellular connectivity that 5G offers.

What is 5G IoT Connection?

5G is the fifth generation of cellular technology that offers faster speeds and more reliable connections than previous generations. IoT refers to the interconnectedness of everyday devices, such as smart devices and appliances, that can communicate with each other and the internet.

5G is well suited for IoT because it offers faster speeds, lower latency, and greater capacity than previous generations. One of the key benefits of 5G IoT connections is the ability to support a wide range of use cases, such as smart cities, connected cars, and industrial automation.

The combination of 5G and IoT has the potential to revolutionize the way we live and work by connecting a vast array of devices and systems in new and innovative ways.
