The growth is expected to be driven by smart city services and healthcare, particularly in areas such as connected emergency services, telemedicine, and real-time remote monitoring.
5G Will Benefit Healthcare Provision
One of the researchers, Olivia Williams, commented that 5G would enable highly efficient and dynamic healthcare provision that was not feasible with 4G or Wi-Fi. Healthcare providers must initially implement 5G in areas that provide a strong return on investment (ROI) and, most notably, connected emergency services.
The Covid-19 pandemic exposed the inefficiencies in healthcare that can be improved by using technologies such as IoT. 5G IoT connection will greatly benefit telemedicine, ambulances and emergency services, and real-time remote monitoring.
The report from Juniper Research also forecasts that there will be over 60 million global 5G smart city connections for smart cities. It encourages city-planning authorities to leverage 5G as high-bandwidth gateways.
