The recent massacre at a Texas elementary school that led to the death of 19 children and two teachers this week has once again spurred calls for Congress to act to stem U.S. gun violence, which includes Democratic Senator Chris Murphy and President Joe Biden leading to recent amendments in Gun Law in the states.
Few senators have demonstrated unlikely to support the legislative fixes. The Republican Senator Tommy Tuberville said, “Guns are not the problem, OK? People are the problem. We’ve had guns forever. And we’re going to continue to have guns.”
The current polling suggests that the stance will side with the U.S. public. Around two-thirds of Americans support the regulations on gun ownership, also 53% of Republicans support the same.

Red-Flag Laws:
70% of people surveyed were in support of the ‘red flag laws’ that allow the police to confiscate firearms from people that courts are dangerous. Around 19 states already have these laws in place.
Raising Legal Age:
Around 72% of the people support the law of changing the age to buy a gun from 18 to 21 years. In the recent incident, Uvalde was 18 years old, which was legally purchased, days before the shooting.
NRA Affiliation:
Around 43% of Republicans and 57% of people said that they are less likely to support the political candidate who took money from or attended events that are held by gun makers or the NRA (National Rifle Association) a gun influential rights advocacy group. The NRA’s annual meeting in Houston will witness the presence of the top Republicans including former President Donald Trump and Texas Governor Greg Abbott.
Arming Teachers:
There is a divided opinion on the issue of arming elementary school teachers or staff with guns. 58 % of Republicans and 45% of Americans backed arming the teachers but 41% of people did not approve of it.
Protection Against Mass Shooting:
Surprisingly, 58% of Americans supported the decision that the best way to protect themselves is by carrying firearms themselves.
