Key Highlights
- Events, from single webinars to multiday conferences, are spread throughout the year without following any specific season.
- With the COVID-19 pandemic still a significant disturbance two years after it started, events remain perpetually fluid.
- Some conferences are in-person, some are virtual, and some are in both ways. All are subject to shift at a moment’s notice.
Storage-focused conferences and more general IT shows that feature a storage element includes some of the biggest names in IT, such as Dell, HPE, and VMware.
The data storage conference field in 2022 tackled various vital issues, including work in and after the pandemic, flash memory, cloud, and security. Several of the events provide video sessions online.
2022 Data Storage Events
Following are a few of the data storage events held in 2022.
USENIX Conference on File and Storage Technologies (FAST)
According to the conference website, this event gathered researchers and practitioners to explore new directions in the design, implementation, evaluation, and deployment of storage systems. Topics were persistent memory, SSDs, and deduplication. The 20th edition of the event was in person in Santa Clara, California, but sessions are available on the conference website.
Linux Storage, Filesystem, Memory Management & BPF Summit
According to the event website, this data storage conference brought together R&D experts and kernel subsystem maintainers to design and implement improvements to the Linux file system, storage, and memory management subsystems.
Such improvements will enter the mainline kernel and Linux distributions in the coming two to four years. The invitation-only event was in person in Palm Springs, California, and virtual.
Dell Technologies World
The 2022 edition of this significant show was the first one since Dell spun off VMware. The vendor launched its Apex storage-as-a-service line at the 2021 Dell Technologies World event. This year’s data storage conference included more details on Project Alpine cloud storage products.
The event featured over 150 breakout sessions, meet-the-expert and whiteboard sessions, hands-on labs, and certifications. It was in person in Las Vegas but also had a virtual component, and the tracks included multi-cloud and service, the future of work, data innovation, and modern security.
SNIA Persistent Memory + Computational Storage Summit
The 10th annual Storage Networking Industry Association (SNIA) Persistent Memory + Computational Storage Summit was a virtual event. It includes live keynotes, panel discussions, breakout sessions, and demonstrations. Sessions, currently available to view on demand, covered topics such as NVMe computational storage, Compute Express Link, and new memory technologies.
The nonprofit SNIA comprises member companies that span the storage market. The aim is to develop and promote vendor-neutral architectures, standards, and educational services for the storage industry.
HPE Discover
HPE Discover was billed as the “Edge-to-Cloud Conference,” covering secure connectivity, hybrid cloud, AI, and data analytics. HPE’s storage division has been busy, with the GreenLake edge-to-cloud platform amidst its top offerings. HPE Discover was in person in Las Vegas, but sessions are currently available on demand.
Flash Memory Summit
Flash Memory Summit was conducted again in 2022 after taking 2021 off. In 2020, SearchStorage and Flash Memory Summit paired up to offer unlimited access to keynote and session presentations. The data storage conference of 2022 was in person in Santa Clara, California. Topics covered were storage and memory tiering, SSD controllers, and data security.
Storage Developer Conference
Storage Developer Conference, an SNIA event, was in person in Fremont, California. Topic tracks included DNA data storage, resource management, computational storage, and emerging technologies. The conference also highlighted a 25th-anniversary celebration of SNIA. Video is now available for purchase on demand.
Nasuni CloudBound
According to the event’s website, Nasuni CloudBound22 was a virtual event that featured keynotes, panel discussions, fireside chats, and demos. Topics covered were cyber resilience, ransomware, data protection, hybrid cloud, and multi-cloud. Video is currently available on demand with registration.
NetApp Insight
NetApp Insight 2022 was a digital event same as in 2021. At the show, the vendor launched BlueXP. This new console gives an overview of NetApp’s services on NAS or S3 storage in one web interface and the ability to migrate data across any NetApp service.
