Cognite, Telenor, and Aker ASA have united to form a new software security company which will be planned to launch this year which will help companies protect their industrial assets from an increased cyber-attack risk.
Sigve Brekke, the CEO of Telenor, said “More and more (industrial) objects (are) being connected, and then you can add Russia-Ukraine on top of that, now going faster and faster.”
Turning Omny Global
With the rising use of the cloud, the inclusion of digital tools and connectivity has increased drastically within businesses. Asa Tamsons, Senior VP head of business area technologies and new businesses at Ericsson stated that cybersecurity is an increasing concern for the company out there.
The co-founder and Chief Strategy and development officer of Cognite, John Lervik, stated that the company Omny will help public and private companies monitor industrial assets so they perform optimally while also ensuring cybersecurity.
Omny will be launching first in Norway during the autumn of this year and soon expand into the Nordic next year. The aim is to eventually make Omny global and the founders will look for international partners to scale it up.
Strengthening Cybersecurity
Omny has estimated that the operational technology security market will grow from $9.8 billion to nearly $49 billion in 2030 with the software part of the market estimated at 20%-30%.
Carl Carande, global head of advisory at KPMG, shared “This continued push for coordination, collaboration, and innovation, that’s the key. Bad actors can just be right once and cause havoc. Everyone else has to be right all the time.”
