Ericsson and Batelco collaborate to enhance 5G technologies

Recently, Ericsson and Batelco have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to work together on 5G technologies such as Cloud-native 5G Core, 5G standalone, Voice over New Radio, and others.

The companies also released a joint statement, “This latest MoU is part of Batelco’s efforts to enhance its network capabilities to achieve future goals for 5G technology, in addition to supporting development programs for new use cases that highlight the potential of 5G for consumers and enterprises.

Ericsson and Batelco also added that the companies will broadly collaborate on Voice over New Radio and advanced charging system, as well as enable the introduction of IoT.

The collaboration also covers Narrowband IoT as a key area of focus for Batelco and Ericsson as they were enabling extended coverage and longer battery lives for ultra-low complexity devices.

This alliance on Narrowband IoT will be driving smart city solutions with features like smart metering, building management, and air quality monitoring, as confirmed by the statement.

The CEO of Batelco, Mikkel Vinter said, “In addition to the strong coverage that 5G from Ericsson provides, this MoU aims to explore ways to implement 5G technologies and reap the advanced benefits for different industries in Bahrain through providing examples of innovative use cases.”

He also added that this collaboration will enable the company to strengthen its enhanced mobile broadband capabilities while also paving the way for launching a 5G millimeter wave.
